Love me, Love Delays

I'm turning into KJ by pimping my favourite band of the moment but I love them so much and I can't exactly explain why I love them, so I need to direct the world (or the seven people who read this blog) to places where they can find out more about Delays.

Check out an excellent live set on Mexican television here (Part 1), here (Part 2) and here (Part 3). My favourites are Lost In A Melody (it's got beeps, Maryam) at the end of part 1, You and Me at the beginning of part 2 and Valentine at the end of part 3.

Or if you don't have time for the half-hour session click here and scroll down to the links at the bottom to see two short acoustic versions of Waste of Space and Hideaway by Greg Gilbert and Colin Fox. Be warned though, they were done in a hotel bedroom after an interview by FaceCulture and they both look like they just woke up. Their hair looks uncombed and Greg is wearing the most awful grandfather glasses but they both sound bee-yew-ti-full.

The goat

So, there we were - three women in their late twenties, lounging on a faux-leather sofa having a nice post-prandial banter with a bunch of friends. Usually it would be just the three of us - me, Si and Em - talking about life, work and relationships - having that Bridget Jones moment which we thought would never come to us, because 'oh no, we're so above that!' But tonight was a farewell party for a friend who was off to Australia for a newer, better job in a newer, better place than sorry-ass England, and the talk frequently turned to career paths, professional exams, work-life balance etc. Cat was talking about a friend who works in computers who did not go to university because she thought it was a waste of time. Books 1. I Am Muslim - DINA ZAMAN . No, don't go running off at the title because Dina Zaman's latest isn't going to preach/proselytise/ to you or urge you to leave your 'sinning ways' and repent. As Dina herself said, this isn't a book about religion, it's about a person who happens to be a Muslim trying to make sense and find her way amidst perilous Kuala Lumpur life. Sometimes, she's not even writing from a Muslim point of view (whatever that is) but from a thirty-something newly single woman just experiencing life and poking fun at it. It's rather a relief to me, that even someone like Dina, whose column Dina's Dalca I used to read as a teenager in the New Straits Times, is still searching and is still trying to find some semblance of order and meaning in today's world.
