This month, I have been listening to:
- You Give Me something - JAMES MORRISON
- SexyBack - JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. Ooooh, Mr Trouser Snake himself.
- Trouble - RAY LAMONTAGNE
- Fill My Little World - THE FEELING
I have also watched:
- Garden State - Ehhh. Nothing fantastic, but maybe I've been reading too many reviews and expecting too much. I can garner some sympathy for the over-anaesthetised Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) and appreciate the tension between Large and his father (Ian Holm) whenever he briefly appears on-screen, but I watched most of the film feeling like I was on all the anti-psychotics Large was on.
- Robin Hood: Men In Tights - Why did I rent this film? How could I forget that I watched it before and didn't find it all that funny? I returned it without watching it till the end.
- Spirited Away - Japanese anime is always a little weird but worth watching because they rarely fit the usual Hollywood/Western storyline. Captivating story with interesting characters, beautiful animation.
- Nacho Libre - I knew this movie was panned by the critics but you know, when you want to do something, you do it anyway no matter what anyone says. So for my sins, I watched a movie which was funny for all of 10 minutes. Though there was this dude who laughed himself silly through most of it. Though I gather from the glass of wine he brought in with him, he may have had a bit to drink already.
- Here We Go Again music video by OK Go - Shot like an amateur video from one angle, it has four rather unlikely men dancing across 8 moving treadmills. Ace!
I have also read:
- The Oracle's Queen by LYNN FLEWELLING - It was bound to go downhill, this, the final book in the Tamir Triad. The first instalment, The Bone Doll's Twin, is one of my favourite books - it has sinister ghosts, a crazy mother in an attic, murderous relatives, ruthless wizards, a horny witch - fantastic characters that'll keep you guessing and wanting more. Of course once Prince Tobin was revealed to all and sundry as the Queen who will save the land of Skala from death and destruction and usher in a new age of enlightenment as per the prophecy, it was all going to be pretty ordinary battle after battle, lots of soul-searching yadda, yadda, yadda. The whole gender re-alignment thing could have been more interesting but the tone felt a bit American teen drama-ish. Disappointing.
Does anyone else find Beyonce's new video for Deja Vu bizarre? Was that a dance she was doing or was she having a fit? And that weird hand movement at the end of the video? Spooky. What does it all mean?!
Also caught and enjoyed the Reading and Leeds festival on the BBC this weekend just gone. How ace are the Arctic Monkeys and Muse? My favourite bits was when the crowd sang along to When The Sun Goes Down while Alex Turner egged them on, Mardy Bum, Map of the Problematique and Showbiz. Bloody brilliant.
