She's hairy, but she's my lover (a Supernatural post)

After watching a good episode of Supernatural, there are a few things I have to do before I can form any sort of coherent statements about what I had just watched. First, I need to control my idiotic grin whenever I think of The Brothers Winchester. Second, I need to get all my girly gushes out of the way via blithering to my fellow Supernatural fan, my sister Maryam. This used to be done by me lying on her bed, stealing all her pillows, waving my hands about in an excitable fashion then driving her off her own bed in my excitement. This is now made difficult by the fact that she has gone back to university 2000 miles away and blithering on a long distance phone call is murder to my wallet. And finally, I need to be able to get over the impulse of giving each brother a hug; depending on how the story went, either a consoling hug, an I’m-glad-you’re-safe hug, or just a you’re-so-cute-and-adorable hug.

Sadly, I can never completely get over any of these impulses. I have managed to have some degree of control over them but that’s about it, so let me tell you of the latest episode of Supernatural, Heart.

It’s about a werewolf see. It’s not just any werewolf, but a superhot lady werewolf who Sam Winchester falls for. But because he’s Sam Winchester, he goes all dopey and dewy-eyed around her. And that’s before and after he finds out she’s a werewolf. Only he tries desperately to save her after he discovers the truth instead of killing her outright with a silver bullet through the heart. Gosh, if only all the other monsters the Winchesters have killed were as good looking as this werewolf – they might have earned a reprieve instead of being blown away. But I do Sam Winchester an injustice. Her attractiveness wasn’t the only thing that made our Sammy hesitate. It was the recognition of a kindred spirit in her. Here was another like him, who had a dark side to which they have no control over. And in recognising this similarity in the werewolf, he thinks, ‘There but for the grace of Dean, go I. If I have my brother Dean to look after me, then surely it falls to me to look after this lady.’

So Sam tries to find a way to reverse the werewolf curse and when their first attempt fails, he begs and pleads with Dean that they must carry on looking for a cure for his lady in distress. Dean is not without his usual one-liners, but appears less caustic this episode, possibly because he acknowledges Sam’s dilemma and growing attachment to the lady werewolf. As uncouth as Dean is, he is sensitive to his brother’s feelings and behaves in a more compassionate way than usual towards his brother. There is also no doubt that he can see himself fighting other hunters for Sam’s life and the vow he made to Sam to save him from the evil within. Which would have left me trying to hug Dean onscreen if it wasn’t for the fact that I was in an internet café surrounded by people.

Sigh, these brothers break my heart. The trials and tribulations they face, and how stoic they are, and how much they look out for each other. Aaaahh, so much love in the world, why can’t we just share it? Sam may be a towering beefy giant who can overcome two SWAT officers with his broken arm but with his dimples, messy hair and general awkwardness, I just want to put him on cake and eat him. And you just have to laugh at Dean when he acts all big and know-it-all when in fact it’s his younger brother who runs circles around him.

A most satisfying episode, much better than the previous week’s Roadkill, which was short on the usual brotherly love. My only problem with it is that I did not see why the werewolf felt that she needed to be put down. Yeah, okay she killed a few people while she was altered but she had no control over the bad side of her. You don’t give a death sentence to a person because of it. As the brothers say, the transformation occur in the week leading up to the full moon, so she still had three weeks out of a month when she wasn’t ripping people’s heart out. She just needs to be locked up once a week or not go to sleep at night. Not a cure, yes, but it’s a manageable chronic disease. But I guess for the purposes of the story, it would be so much better if the brothers killed her and be done with it instead of having it hanging in the background. It won’t do to have them keep running back to her in future episodes.

yeah, suppose we cant choose who we love and love can be such a bitch sometimes...(pun unintended, and i know its so cheesy but take it anyway!)

Anyway, I'm sure Sam is not the only person who has fallen for the hairy but lovable types!

I've been reading a book by Laurell Hamilton called 'Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter'. A good read if you want to keep up in your zombie/vampire/lycanthrope lore in a not-as-annoying-as-Buffy fashion.

Yeah. I am today officially transferring my loyalty to Tesco from Eurospar which, although stocks superbe quality stuff would cost me a bomb to sustain life here.

Oh, how nice it is to have my pillows to myself again. Except when Dean and Sam come to visit. Heh. Hahah.

Oh, I forgive him then, z, coz he has no cable.

Awwww, KJ, that werewolf joke was when we were young and cruel.

Hah, you wish Maryam. And since when did Sam become part of the equation? EH? Eh? I thought you were all Dean.

Another S.E.X.Y.F.A.T. announcement

As a member of S.E.X.Y.F.A.T. (Society for the EXploitation of Yummy men in Film And Television) I feel obliged to do a run-down of top hunks that graced our (okay, my consciousness) in 2006. For the original S.E.X.Y.F.A.T. manifesto, please see Maryam's Guide To Everything Part 1. And no, I can't be bothered to review anything else in 2006 or make any resolutions because a) it's boring b) yeah, right, as if I'll change my ways c) this was way more fun My Top 3 Jensen Ackles (Jensen, you know it's me you want, not Maryam!) Jared Padalecki (Oh, alright, I'll have you instead) Jim Caviezel (aaaah, my blue-eyed Jim, why so sad? Is it because you are No.3?) Special Mention Guy Berryman (you are still yummy) Brandon Flowers (but only circa 2003 when he was sans eyeliner, mustache and gelled flattened hair) Paolo Nutini ( a bit too young for me but lovely all the same) Johnny Depp (the long time favourite, still going strong. You still float my boat Johnnayy! ...

May 2007's list

Books 1. I Am Muslim - DINA ZAMAN . No, don't go running off at the title because Dina Zaman's latest isn't going to preach/proselytise/ to you or urge you to leave your 'sinning ways' and repent. As Dina herself said, this isn't a book about religion, it's about a person who happens to be a Muslim trying to make sense and find her way amidst perilous Kuala Lumpur life. Sometimes, she's not even writing from a Muslim point of view (whatever that is) but from a thirty-something newly single woman just experiencing life and poking fun at it. It's rather a relief to me, that even someone like Dina, whose column Dina's Dalca I used to read as a teenager in the New Straits Times, is still searching and is still trying to find some semblance of order and meaning in today's world. Dina's humour is never nasty, nor despairing and the warmth of her anecdotes of the people she meets, no matter how bizarre, demonstrates her willingness to learn an...

The pimping of Supernatural

Sometimes I feel like I should obsess over something a bit more respectable, like reading my textbooks for instance, or jogging or raising funds for orphan kids. Alas, such respectability is beyond me now for my body houses a shallow mind, so I get excited over TV shows and an actor. (A hot actor, mind you). But then again, why is it not valid to enormously appreciate such things? The amount of work that goes into producing a good television series is surely nothing to sniff at, while acting convincingly is not as easy as it seems. Just look at the number of bad actors there are out there. Of course, obsessing over things is made easier nowadays with more young people with disposable incomes, the internet providing us with endless facts and figures about our latest obsession, as well as connecting us with fellow obsessees all over the world. Knowing people with similar interests validates your obsession and makes you feel less guilty over it. Plus having somebody scream in a girly-mann...
